Also known as 'acid.'


History

LSD was created by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann in 1938. It was created from a rye fungus, and Hofmann was the first to experience the first 'trip.'

Effect of Drug on Consciousness

Psychological:

-Distorted time
-Sounds cause visual sensations
-'Out-of-body experience'

Physiological:

-Stimulate specific type of seratonin receptors in the forebrain
-Stimulates type of dopamine receptors whose activation lead to hallucinations
-Seratonin aganists reduce hallucinatory events

Adverse Effects

-Not addictive, but tolerance does develop
-Severe short-term memory loss
-Paranoia
-Violent Outbursts
-Nightmares
-Panic Attacks
-Flashbacks
